A happy home is a work in progress. You’ve got this.
MEASURE ONCE. MAKE ROOM.

Will it fit?

Find a simple grid layout for identical storage bins. Use the narrowest usable shelf dimensions and the outside dimensions of your bin.

How the calculation works

Subtract the total clearance once from each shelf dimension. Divide each remaining dimension by the corresponding bin dimension, round down, and multiply the three whole-number counts. If turning is enabled, we also swap bin width and depth and choose the better regular-grid layout. If stacking is off, height is capped at one layer.

Example: a 30 × 16 × 14 in shelf, 1 in total clearance per dimension, and 9 × 14 × 6 in bins gives a 29 × 15 × 13 in usable space. A 3 × 1 × 2 grid fits 6 bins geometrically.

This is a geometric estimate, not a shelf load or safety rating. It assumes rectangular bins in one uniform orientation. Mixed orientations can sometimes fit more. Check handles, door openings, shelf load limits, and whether the containers are designed to stack.

Is clearance measured on each side?

No. Enter the total space to leave unused per dimension. Entering 1 inch leaves 1 inch total across the width, 1 inch total across the depth, and 1 inch total across the height—not 1 inch on each side.

Will switching units change my measurements?

Yes. Existing values convert between inches and centimeters using 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters. Very small rounding differences may matter for a tight fit; leave practical clearance and confirm with a physical test.
